What barriers are there to developing the lands? What opportunities are there to the residents of Hamilton as well as visitors? What is the potential?
Project Description: Using 3D modelling or living master planning the goal would be to have students take a closer look at the opportunities and constraints of the site and re-imagine what could be on these lands. The new owner of the property would like to see the 3.4 km waterfront opened to the public, creative use of the heritage attributes on the site, landscaping opportunities, and new land uses.
In conjunction with Slate, we would like to open up this opportunity to be part of the re-think about the Stelco lands. There are a number of project ideas here. Slate has submitted a Plan of Subdivision application which is the first step to looking at the lands from a very high level in how to divide the lands into blocks. Some of these blocks could protect for waterfront access and heritage resources while others can be designated for redevelopment. What could that look like?
