Project description: Proposal for Traffic Control and Community Impact for Open Streets Challenge Objective: To develop a comprehensive traffic control plan for an 8 km Open Streets route, focusing on Hamilton’s urban core. This initiative aims to create a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly environment while balancing technical traffic management with the social impacts on local businesses and community hubs. What Are Open Streets? Open streets programs temporarily close certain roads to motor vehicles, allowing pedestrians, cyclists, and other non-motorized users to enjoy the space. These initiatives promote active transportation, community engagement, and public health while transforming streets into vibrant spaces for recreation, local events, and social interaction.
