Open for Matching: Evaluating Green Infrastructure in Hamilton

How effective are rain gardens in reducing stormwater runoff?

Project Description: This project will help Green Venture and the City of Hamilton evaluate the efficacy of Green Infrastructure (GI), particularly rain gardens, in reducing stormwater runoff in Hamilton. As part of our ongoing commitment to promoting sustainable urban environments, Green Venture has been instrumental in the installation of over 70 private and public rain gardens across the city. These rain gardens play a crucial role in managing stormwater, filtering pollutants, and enhancing the aesthetic and ecological value of urban spaces. However, there is a growing need to assess their overall impact and measure both quantitative and qualitative metrics to better understand their effectiveness and guide future initiatives.
