IDEA-Informed Hiring with the City of Hamilton's Fire Department

How can the City of Hamilton enhance Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility within recruitment practices for the Hamilton Fire Department?

Project Description: Building on previous student project work, advise the City of Hamilton on the next steps in administering a survey to inform the development of an IDEA-informed approach to hiring, focusing specifically on increasing the diversity of the City of Hamilton Fire Department.

Resource Gathering:

. The McMaster project team will review previous student research, including reports, surveys, and hiring policies, to understand existing knowledge and gaps.

. Team members will refine the pre-developed survey based on best practices in IDEA hiring research.

. Ethical guidelines for survey administration and data privacy will be reviewed to ensure compliance with McMaster’s Research Ethics Board (REB) and municipal regulations.

. The McMaster team will ultimately seek to launch the survey to the general Hamilton community, in alignment with the proposed outreach plan, to ensure maximum data for analysis.
