How do we create a better housing experience and support system for tenants who are newcomers and immigrant tenants?
Project Description:
CityHousing Hamilton (CHH) would like to explore the unique needs of newcomers and immigrants in individual buildings in order to build equitable support services to improve the quality of life for tenants.
The data collection/research project would focus on individual needs and uncover tenants’ perspectives to take a holistic view at building needs. The project would build a co-creative process that could include:
Journey maps to map out and observe the basic processes of tenant life
Needs and areas where partnerships can be built to bring in relevant services.
Goals:
In order to collect the data, students would:
Research human centred design
Build the framework for recruitment of tenants willing to be interviewed
Focus on unique needs and concerns of immigrant and families
Identify community service providers in Hamilton and surrounding areas who are offering services to newcomer families
Create internal interviews – scripts, schedules, training interviewers, etc.
Conduct qualitative interviews with tenants
Create journey maps
Identify recommendations and opportunities

Deliverables: Summary reports, feasibility study, recommendations & guidelines

Data, reports, and other tools will be presented to CHH for their use and/or implementation.
