How can we help senior tenants feel safe in City housing?

Red and Blue crest for Redeemer University

Project Description:

CityHousing Hamilton (CHH) would like to explore the unique needs of seniors in individual buildings in order to build equitable support services to improve the quality of life for tenants.

The data collection/research project would focus on individual needs and uncover tenants’ perspectives to take a holistic view at building needs.  The project would build a co-creative process that could include:

  • Journey maps to map out and observe the basic processes of tenant life

  • Needs and areas where partnerships can be built to bring in relevant services.

Goals:

In order to collect the data, students would:

  • Research human centred design

  • Build the framework for recruitment of tenants willing to be interviewed

  • Focus on unique needs and concerns of seniors

  • Identify community service providers in Hamilton and surrounding areas who are offering services to seniors

  • Create internal interviews – scripts, schedules, training interviewers, etc.

  • Conduct qualitative interviews with tenants

  • Create journey maps

  • Identify recommendations and opportunities
