How can students be supported in effectively pursuing projects inspired by their first CityLAB Hamilton semester or course?
Project Description:
There is an opportunity to create a framework for CityLAB Semester in Residence students to continue their projects or to engage in new projects with CityLAB Hamilton after they have completed their SiR experience or another CityLAB Hamilton affiliated course.
Challenge Summary:
The priority challenge is to make recommendations for an updated process for thesis projects or other upper year experiential learning courses at McMaster that will offer students support in taking their project from the idea phase to a completed project using the CityLAB Hamilton support system, along with other existing tools at McMaster. The framework will help to answer the question: “How can students be supported in effectively pursuing projects inspired by their first CityLAB Hamilton semester or course?” The action proposed to answer this question is to perform a literature analysis and a set of interviews to create a fully informed list of recommendations for CityLAB Hamilton staff members.
Goals:
Interview and collaborate with CityLAB SIR alum, current CityLAB Hamilton Students, OPIRG, City of Hamilton staff, other McMaster Faculty, Vancouver CityStudio, and the Student Mentorship Initiative Fellowship to develop a framework and network of support that future independent projects can utilize.
Deliverables: Interviews, report, framework
Where the work will go and what it will be used for:
The completed recommendation report will be presented to CityLAB staff in April. The report will then be used to structure the independent project framework for CityLAB.
