What improvements could Hamilton make to create a more efficient and effective housing governance model?
Project Description: Municipalities across Canada and North America utilize various approaches to handle the housing continuum and many operate with a separation of work between municipal divisions or departments to address the housing crisis. In Ontario there are some municipalities that have adopted different governance models, where aspects of the housing continuum are managed separately.
The Housing Secretariat seeks research and analysis on how Canadian or North American municipalities and regional governments structure their housing governance, including:
Housing Master Plans and strategies.
Organizational frameworks and responsibilities.
Best practices in governance, funding allocation, and service delivery.
Measurable outcomes and efficiencies achieved in different models.
This project shall help identify strategies and best practices from other municipalities to assist the City to determine opportunities to enhance coordination and optimizing resource allocation that may improve outcomes for residents in need of affordable housing and homelessness supports.
